Seeing the Glass as Half Full

Stress management

Why is it that some always see the glass as half-empty, while others always see it as half-full? What is it about certain people that always seem so upbeat and positive? And why is it that misery does indeed love company, therefore, negative people generally find each other so they can complain about their lots in life?

Maintaining a positive attitude is essential to your overall health. Have you ever noticed that negative people get sick more often? That’s because mental attitude has a lot to do with physical health. It especially affects your cardiovascular health and…it can even influence your life expectancy.

So…what can you do to acquire a more positive attitude if you don’t have one, or maintain or even better the one you already have? Try these simple, yet effective suggestions:

Adopt an attitude of gratitude – Instead of always looking at what you don’t have, look at what you do have and be thankful. Positive begets positive, and the reverse is also true.

Be of service to others – Those who do for others accomplish two things – they tend to forget about their own troubles and they help someone in need.

Use positive affirmations – Stop that voice in your head that says “You are less than…” and replace it with good feelings you have about yourself, such as, “I am a good friend.” “I am not afraid because I have faith in God who is with me all the time.” “I enjoy many blessings.”

Eat well – Instead of reaching for that sugary snack that you think will make you feel better, reach for some raw vegetables instead.

Get enough rest – It’s hard to be positive when you’re cranky because you haven’t gotten enough sleep. Make sure you’re getting enough rest to recharge those batteries!

Exercise – The benefits of exercise are proven again and again – and exercise releases “feel good” chemicals in your brain known as endorphins.

Reduce stress – As much as you can, try to alleviate stress in your life and stay away from sources that give you stress, whether they’re toxic relatives or situations over which you have little control.

And by all means – keep your scheduled chiropractic appointments! Many of our patients report that they feel better mentally and emotionally as a result of their regular adjustments. Stress affects us in many ways – starting with our attitudes and working its way down to our health – so be proactive!

How do you "catch" a cold?
Simply lower your resistance by avoiding the proper rest and exercise, eating lots of sugar and junk food, putting up with emotional stress and neglecting your nervous system by avoiding your chiropractor. You won't have to catch a cold because it will catch you!
What is the purpose of pain?
Pain prompts many Vancouver folks to begin chiropractic care. But pain isn't the problem! Pain is just how your body alerts you that a limit has been reached (or exceeded), that something isn't working right and that some type of change is needed.
